![]() has a 8-track subforum, it's a bit of a joke there too but not at all mean-spirited, many of the users are older and have a lot of nostalgic love for the format, so many there are collectors.Ĩ-tracks have always had a niche audience since they fell out favor to cassette tapes (keep in mind they were very novel and nifty in the 70s, they were the only affordable and portable format for awhile, cheaper than audio cassette and unlike vinyl you could play it in your car or on the go even my mom had a 8-track boombox like player as a teen). All of these are often worn down on used tapes, making them prone to break. But in general most 8-track players were not great and the tape's quality, which isn't that bad, is compromised by design flaws like plastic casing, felt pads, and the foil leaders you mentioned. Got an Akai CR-83D now, which I replaced the belt for and will likely sell after I digitize some obscure 8-tracks I own They even had Dolby and sounded better than many of my cassette dual decks. I also had two of the best players, Pioneer HR-100 and a Pioneer Centrex RH-65. I have some, used to have a ton but most were crappy so I gave them away to other collectors. ![]()
